Make this Ginger & Lemon Elixir for daily remediesIMG-6915 This syrup is of particular importance at this time. We keep a jar at the ready and mix it into warm water. Make this DELICIOUS GINGER & LEMON ELIXIR One piece of ginger about 3” round (wash well under hot water) Break it up into smaller pieces and put it in the blender (do not need to peel- cut off any moldy or black spots) Add 3 cups water and one whole cut up and well washed organic lemon. 1/4 lemon with skin
1 cup frozen blackberries
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup Swiss chard

Photo by Chiara ContiWe shared this recipe at the first Commit to Change retreat on Martha’s Vineyard in March. It makes a super thick smoothie you can eat with a spoon, so we call it pudding. This makes enough for two, and can easily replace a lunch! We provide the amount of potassium next to each item, as reminder to target 6,000 mg of potassium each day. The pudding totals 1,700 mg.

Romaine lettuce is the nutritional powerhouse of lettuces. Use the outer, dark, thick-stalked leaves for smoothies and puddings.

  • 1 avocado (700 mg potassium)
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce
  • 2 cups wilted raw spinach or arugula (335 mg potassium)
  • 1/2 cup cashews, soaked 1-2 hours or overnight (420 mg potassium)
  • 1 whole lime, with skin cut into pieces (68 mg potassium, plus great soluble fiber in the skin)
  • 4 drops of sweetener: stevia or your choice
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk (290 mg potassium)
  • 1/2 cup water

Add all to a blender and blend until smooth.

golden milk jan(Makes 1 cup)

1 (1-inch) piece turmeric, unpeeled, thinly sliced, or 1 tsp. dried turmeric
1/2 tsp. whole black peppercorns
2 Tbsp. virgin coconut oil
1 cup A2 milk or homemade almond milk
1 (1-inch) piece ginger, unpeeled, thinly sliced
1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick or pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of cardamon

In a small pan, heat the coconut oil and add the turmeric and peppercorns and stir for a minute. Slowly add the milk, ginger and cinnamon. Heat on medium for 5 minutes. Do not boil. Add a pinch of cardamon and serve.

  • 1/2 ripe avocado, pitted and peeled
  • 2 small Persian cucumbers, or English cucumbers diced (3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup spinach leaves or kale, torn into bite-size pieces
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup plain unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • Pinch sea salt, plus more to taste

Add all ingredients to an upright blender and blend until smooth. Season to taste with sea salt and serve immediately.

Green smoothies are a great way to replace your lunch or dinner or if you are feeling you need an extra boost midday, go ahead and have a green smoothie.

Mint, cinnamon, and ginger are great smoothie enhancers.

A green smoothie is 1 part green vegetable (Lettuce, spinach, chard, bok choy greens, etc) 1 part liquid (coconut water, or water,) and 2 parts fruit.  As your palate becomes more familiar with the green smoothies, go with less fruit and more greens for  total cleanse.

Here are a few of our favorite smoothies

  • 1 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup spinach

Combine all the ingredients with the liquid in the bottom of the blender and blend until sooth.

 

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 cup baby kale
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ cup strawberries
  • 1 whole apple
  • 1 whole lemon with peel

Combine all the ingredients with the liquid in the bottom of the blender and blend until sooth.

  • Zest and juice of one lime
  • 1 orange zest and juice
  • 1 inch ginger
  • dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend. Strain through a cheese cloth and serve warm or cold. Cold can be topped with sparkling water and a lime wedge. Of course float some pomegranate seeds!

Here is a holiday sparkling punch that is satisfying without the sugar or calories. Bring a pitcher of this to your next party! Save some of the pomegranate seeds for garnish by floating the seeds in the drink.

 In this recipe, you juice the seeds and press the citrus.

Preparing pomegranates for juicing  is easy. It is the seeds inside that you are juicing, not the pith or skin. Simply cut the pomegranate  in half and with the seeds side in the cup of your hand, over a bowl, and begin to pound the back of the pom with a spoon. The pounding will release the seeds.

Ingredients 

  • 3  grapefruits
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 3 pomegranates

Use a citrus press or a juicer to juice the grapefruits and lime. Juice the pomegranates into a separate bowl. Combine the juices.

Just before serving, fill a glass of juice mixture to half and top it off with sparkling mineral water.
